We were driving down RR 12 the other day and I noticed a sign that credits the DS Girl Scouts for ensuring that a section of the highway over near Hamilton Pool Road is litter-free.  We can all thank a Girl Scout on March 12 as the Girls Scouts of America celebrate Girl Scout Day. This date celebrates the creation of the first Girl Scout group on March 12, 1912.  Lady Olave Baden-Powell, founded Girl Guides. The wife of Lord Baden-Powell (who created the Boy Scouts), she was born on February 22 (1889).  On March 12, 1912 Juliette Gordon Low started the first Girl Scout group in Savannah Georgia with 18 girls. The Girls Scouts became a national organization, and was was chartered by the U.S. Congress on March 16, 1950. Today, there are millions of girls involved with Girl Scouts.

Souper Bowl of Caring Dripping Springs Style

We stopped in the Dripping Springs HEB for a few things yesterday and participated in a clever campaign for the Souper Bowl of Caring.  The store has loaded up individual shopping bags with $5 in healthy groceries for customers to purchase and donate to the Souper Bowl of Caring right in the store.  Employees ring a cowbell each time a bag is purchased -- while we were there one shopper purchased 20 bags for this wonderful cause.  The Souper Bowl of Caring takes place each year to help fill local food banks.  For more information about great people and events in Dripping Springs, Texas, please visit http://www.drippingspringslife.com/.
